
A Story of Freedom – Donald Glover & Rihanna’s Guava Island
Premiering for the first time at Coachella, the long-awaited Childish Gambino and Rihanna film, Guava Island has arrived on Amazon Prime. The new film debuted following Childish Gambino’s set at Coachella across three different stages and streamed live on Coachella’s YouTube live stream.
The movie portrays a love story between Rihanna’s character Kofi and Deni Maroon, a well-known musician portrayed by Donald Glover (Childish Gambino). Deni Maroon is on a quest to hold a music festival for the oppressed people of Guava. The short film features Childish Gambino’s, “This is America,” “Feels Like Summer,”and “Summertime Magic” and many Danny Glover collaborations.
This Hiro Murai directed film was written by Danny Glover’s brother, Stephen Glover and showcases Cuba’s history with artistic repression and its beautiful island scenery. Guava Island showcases the power and freedom that music possesses and how music can unify people from all walks of life even during the darkest times.
